Quectel BG95-M5

The Quectel BG95-M5 is a multi-mode LPWA module supporting LTE Cat M1/Cat NB2/EGPRS with integrated GNSS capabilities. This 3GPP Rel-14 compliant module delivers maximum data rates of 588 kbps downlink and 1119 kbps uplink under LTE Cat M1, with Cat NB2 supporting up to 127 kbps downlink and 158.5 kbps uplink. For EGPRS connectivity, it operates on GSM 850/EGSM 900/DCS 1800/PCS 1900 MHz bands with EDGE data rates up to 296 kbps downlink and 236.8 kbps uplink.

The module features ultra-low power consumption through its integrated RAM/flash and ARM Cortex A7 processor supporting ThreadX, achieving 70% reduction in PSM leakage and 85% reduction in eDRX current consumption compared to its predecessor. Operating from a 3.3-4.3V supply (typical 3.8V), it consumes just 1.56 mA in sleep mode and 226 mA during active transmission at 23 dBm.

Housed in a compact LGA package measuring 23.6 × 19.9 × 2.2 mm, the BG95-M5 operates across standard temperatures of -35°C to +75°C with extended range support from -40°C to +85°C. It provides comprehensive connectivity through multiple interfaces including 3 UARTs, USB 2.0, PCM, I2C, 9 GPIOs, and dual antenna connections. The module supports GPS/GLONASS/BDS/Galileo/QZSS positioning systems and includes 2 GRFC interfaces.

Supporting extensive protocols including PPP, TCP/UDP, SSL/TLS, HTTP(S), MQTT, LwM2M, and CoAP with IPv6, the module enables VoLTE for Cat M1 and CS voice for GSM communications. It features DFOTA capability, QuecOpen support, cell ID positioning, and compatibility with AWS and Azure IoT platforms. The module maintains pin-to-pin compatibility with other Quectel modules including EG91/EG95, BG96, BC95-G, UG95/UG96, and M95, facilitating easy migration and design flexibility.
