The Quectel BG95-M3 is a multi-mode LPWA module supporting LTE Cat M1, Cat NB2, and EGPRS connectivity with integrated GNSS capabilities. This 3GPP Release 14 compliant module delivers maximum data rates of 588 kbps downlink and 1119 kbps uplink under LTE Cat M1, with Cat NB2 offering up to 127 kbps downlink and 158.5 kbps uplink. For EGPRS, it provides EDGE data rates up to 296 kbps downlink and 236.8 kbps uplink, while GPRS supports up to 107 kbps downlink and 85.6 kbps uplink.
The module features ultra-low power consumption through its integrated RAM/flash and ARM Cortex A7 processor supporting ThreadX, achieving up to 70% reduction in PSM leakage and 85% reduction in eDRX current consumption compared to its predecessor. It incorporates comprehensive hardware-based security features with trusted applications running directly on the Cortex A7 TrustZone engine.
Operating on a supply voltage of 3.3-4.3V (typical 3.8V), the BG95-M3 supports extensive LTE-FDD bands including B1/2/3/4/5/8/12/13/18/19/20/25/26/27/28/31/66/72/73/85 for Cat M1 and B1/2/3/4/5/8/12/13/18/19/20/25/28/31/66/72/73/85 for Cat NB2. It also supports quad-band GSM/EGPRS on 850/900/1800/1900 MHz frequencies. The integrated GNSS supports GPS, GLONASS, BDS, Galileo, and QZSS positioning systems.
Housed in a compact LGA package measuring 23.6 × 19.9 × 2.2 mm, the module operates across a temperature range of -35°C to +75°C with extended temperature support from -40°C to +85°C. It offers multiple interfaces including USB 2.0, three UART ports, PCM and I2C for VoLTE, nine GPIO pins, two antennas, and a 1.8V SIM interface. The module supports comprehensive protocols including PPP, TCP, UDP, SSL/TLS, FTP(S), HTTP(S), MQTT, LwM2M, CoAP, and IPv6.
Additional features include VoLTE support for Cat M1, CS voice for GSM, point-to-point SMS with cell broadcast capabilities, DFOTA, QuecOpen, QuecLocator, cell ID positioning, and compatibility with AWS and Azure IoT platforms. The BG95-M3 provides pin-to-pin compatibility with other Quectel modules including EG91/EG95, BG96, BC95-G, UG95/UG96, and M95, enabling easy migration across different cellular technologies.
