SIMCom SIM908

The SIMCom SIM908 is a complete Quad-Band GSM/GPRS module with integrated GPS technology for satellite navigation. Operating on 850/900/1800/1900MHz frequencies, this compact SMT package module combines GPRS multi-slot class 10 connectivity with 42-channel GPS L1 C/A code receiver capabilities. The module supports GSM Phase 2/2+ with Class 4 (2W @ 850/900MHz) and Class 1 (1W @ 1800/1900MHz) power output, controlled via AT commands including GSM 07.07, 07.05 and SIMCom enhanced AT commands.

The SIM908 features high GPS sensitivity with -160 dBm tracking and -143 dBm cold start capability, achieving cold start times of 30 seconds typical and hot starts of 1 second typical, with horizontal position accuracy better than 2.5m CEP. For data transfer, it supports GPRS class 8/10 with maximum 85.6 kbps downlink speeds, CSD up to 14.4 kbps, and includes an integrated TCP/IP stack with PPP-stack support. Audio capabilities include tricodec support for half rate, full rate, and enhanced full rate codecs, hands-free operation, and echo cancellation.

The module operates on a supply voltage range of 3.2-4.8V for GPRS and 3.0-4.5V for GPS, with low power consumption of 77mA during GPS acquisition and 76mA during tracking (with GSM engine in idle mode). Measuring 30x30x3.2mm and weighing 5.2g (11.1g for SIM908-C variant), it operates across -40°C to +85°C temperature range. The 80-pad SMT interface includes external SIM support (3V/1.8V), dual analog audio interfaces, SPI interface, RTC backup, charge interface, serial and debug interfaces for GSM/GPRS, debug interface for GPS NMEA output, and two separate antenna connectors for GSM/GPRS and GPS. The module is CE and RoHS certified.
