Telit JUPITER SE880

The Telit JUPITER SE880 is an ultra-compact GPS receiver module designed for commercial, industrial, and consumer applications including wearable and handheld devices. This miniature 4.7 x 4.7 x 1.4 mm QFN (Quad-Flat No-leads) module utilizes SiRFstarIV technology and 3-D component embedding to deliver high performance in size-constrained GPS applications.

The module features a 48-channel GPS architecture operating on the L1 Band with C/A Code, supporting NMEA standards. It delivers autonomous positional accuracy of less than 1.8 meters (CEP50), with speed accuracy under 0.01 m/s and heading accuracy under 0.01 degrees. The SE880 achieves rapid Time-To-First-Fix with hot start in 1 second and cold start in less than 35 seconds at -130 dBm.

Key capabilities include AGPS support using Extended Ephemeris injection and on-board generation, EGNOS/WAAS/GAGAN/MSAS correction capability, and an ultra-sensitive receiver with acquisition sensitivity of -148 dBm, navigation sensitivity of -163 dBm, and tracking sensitivity of -165 dBm. The module can directly couple to passive antennas and includes data logging functionality.

The SE880 offers multiple interface options including UART, SPI, and I2C, plus PPS for precise timing and SPI Flash interface. It operates on 1.8V power supply with efficient power management, consuming 35 mA in full power LDO mode, 28 mA in switcher mode, 10 mA in low power tracking mode (1 Hz), and just 14 μA in hibernate mode. The module maintains hot start conditions in Micro Power Management mode with 50-500 μA average current consumption.

Weighing only 0.08 grams in a 34-pad QFN package requiring only 2-layer PCB, the SE880 operates across -40°C to +85°C temperature range, making it ideal for demanding environments and urban canyon conditions.
