SIMCom SIM968

The SIMCom SIM968 is a compact Quad-Band GSM/GPRS module with integrated GNSS technology for satellite navigation, built on the PNX4851 platform. This all-in-one SMT-type module supports GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz frequencies with GPRS multi-slot class 10 capability and mobile station class B compliance. The module delivers Class 4 power output (2W) at 850/900MHz and Class 1 (1W) at 1800/1900MHz.

The SIM968 features comprehensive GNSS capabilities supporting GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and QZSS systems with a 33-tracking/99-acquisition channel receiver operating at up to 10Hz update rate. It achieves tracking sensitivity of -167 dBm, cold start sensitivity of -148 dBm, and provides positioning accuracy of less than 2.5m CEP. Time-to-first-fix performance includes 28 seconds for cold start, 26 seconds for warm start, and less than 1 second for hot start, with EPO assist reducing cold start to 13 seconds.

Communication capabilities include point-to-point SMS in both text and PDU modes, tricodec audio support with half rate, full rate, and enhanced full rate options, plus hands-free operation with echo cancellation. Data transfer supports GPRS class 8/10 with maximum 85.6 kbps downlink speeds, integrated TCP/IP stack, and CSD up to 14.4 kbps. The module is controlled via AT commands following 3GPP TS 27.007 standards and SIMCom enhanced commands.

Operating from a 3.2-4.8V main supply (VBAT), 2.8-4.3V GPS supply, and 5V charging input, the module measures 30×30×3.0mm, weighs 5.3g, and operates across -40°C to +85°C. The 80-pad SMT package includes interfaces for external 3V/1.8V SIM card, two analog audio interfaces, SPI, RTC backup, serial and debug interfaces for GSM/GPRS, and two serial interfaces for GNSS.
