Product description
The SIMCom SIM18 is an ultra-compact GPS module featuring a 48-channel SiRF4 high sensitivity navigation engine with L1 frequency and C/A code reception. Measuring just 11×11×2.2mm and weighing 0.5g, this SMT-type module offers exceptional tracking sensitivity of -161 dBm and cold start sensitivity of -147 dBm. The module achieves cold starts in 35 seconds (typical) and hot starts in 0.6 seconds (typical), with position accuracy of 2.5m CEP and speed accuracy better than 0.01m/s.
Operating from a 1.71V to 1.89V power supply, the SIM18 consumes 45mA during acquisition, 40mA during tracking, and only 18μA in sleep mode. The module supports multiple serial interfaces including UART, SPI, and I²C (with additional master mode), and provides digital I/O including NReset, EINT0 input, ON_OFF input, WAKEUP output, and time pulse. It supports both NMEA and OSP protocols and is compatible with active and passive antennas.
Designed for demanding applications, the SIM18 operates reliably from -40°C to +85°C, supports velocities up to 1850km/h and altitudes up to 18,288km. The module comes with development support through the SIM18 EVB KIT featuring USB V2.0 full speed interface, with CE certification available from November 2010.
